Ember

Unconventional Textiles

Ember is a dress made entirely out of pipe cleaners, gift ribbon, craft feathers, string beads, tissue paper, and wax cord knotted together and attached to a fabric lining. This project was a study in the development and creation of unconventional textiles using non-textile objects. By using these objects of varying texture, color, and shape, a unique and luxurious textile pair was created.

Inversion

Surface Design

ITAA Conference Nomination

Inversion began as a white satin shift dress. By combining various surface design techniques such as hand painting, hand embroidery, machine embroidery, paint resist, beading, and contrasting fabric circles, a complex and intriguing design was created.

Yellow Light

Color Study

The first project of Alexandra Blair's time at the Wilson College of Textiles, Yellow Light is a canvas circle skirt hand painted with Shiva oil paint sticks. By using resist techniques, color combinations, and stenciling, the light and fun design simultaneously blends in and stands out from it's natural background.

Wild Things

Engineered Knit Garment

Cotton & Sustainability Symposium

Wilds Things was inspired by the children's book Where The Wild Things Are. In creating a knit garment, utilizing the pixelization to the designs advantage was a key component in the successful interpretation of movement and foliage in the final garment. Wild Things, knitted in patterned pieces, was showcased at the Cotton & Sustainability Symposium at the Wilson College of Textiles.

SunDance

Painted Fabric

SunDance is composed of a two piece outfit of bold gold and orange satin with a hand painted cape. Through the combination of several shades and finishes of textile paints, the satin cape adds depth to the mini two piece set underneath.

Descent

Quilting

Inspired by Alexandra Blair's heritage and family history of quilting, Descent combines an oversized jacket made out of old quilt blocks that overlaps a pale blue tied dress previously hand dyed by Alexandra Blair. By using materials from previous projects, this design incorporates family and personal history into a modern design.

Posh

Suiting

Posh, a simple suit set, was designed with simplicity and a neat, tailored fit in mind. This sleek set combines a slightly flared skirt with a fitted, cropped sleeve blazer for a polished look.
